Suggestions for a student B5 owner
So I've had my 97 A4 1.8T for about 3 years now and she is pushing around 250k miles
. During these years I was able to keep up with repairs since I could work and such (new turbo, catlytic convertor, and a few other big repairs).
Now that I am in professional school and living strictly off loans I wanted to ask do you think it would be best to continue trying to fix up my car to last another 4 more years or do you think its time to let the dream die and start trying to find a way for a replacement? I love my audi to death as it was my first and only car that I have owned but there is many more repairs to go. Currently on the list is a new ICM, timing belt, and brakes which all are pretty costly. So would it be more cost efficient to continue repairing especially with the mileage in mind?
Thanks for the advice guys.

It is a decision that you will have to make, i was in the same predicament. You can either sell it and get something else and hope you dont have to do a lot of repairs or even more then what you are doing now, or you could hold tight and do what you need to do and keep the car that you already know in and out.
I decided to keep my audi and invest into it rather then selling and having the chance i would get something worse and be stuck with less or no money to fix it.
my 2 cents.

Well if it is paid off it will be alot cheaper to keep and repair than to pay for a car loan. And with those miles and neede repairs the cars worth anywhere from 500-1500 depending on condition/options. Sure you can trade for another 500 car but you'll be in the same boat. All thos parts are less than 500 and can be installed in a weekend.
Good luck with your decision. Mine would be keep and fix

^ and that sums it up so well!
Unless you are getting a brand new car or a reliable utensil (aka Japanese car like a Honda Civic or Toyota Camry with good maintenance records)

i'm gonna go against the grain here and say that its 250k miles.... i say dump it if you can. you included brakes in your list of expensive repairs... all those repairs are relatively cheap if you do it yourself. if you aren't going to actually fix your own car, keeping a car and expecting it to last for 4 years on that many miles, well... that's just expensive as hell. i've been looking at prices, and i have seen that in my area, a car with a quarter of the miles on yours is going for like 2500... if you're living on loans, you should probably consider investing some of that in a newer car if you can, with the sale price of yours.
i just turned 30.. i decided to finish a degree in english when i turned 25, and ended up getting into computer graphics instead. i'm doing my last semester now for my mfa. i had a durango at the time, and the gas was really expensive getting to school everyday so i found my audi with 45k miles on it (96 2.8) on ebay for 4000. i'm at 130 now, and have put a lot of money in merely parts into it. i change the oil, try not to beat on it, but still, they're expensive man. don't kid yourself. anyways, what i'm saying is, if you're not going to fix it yourself..... its going to be a very expensive travel for you.
