TCM Fried!!!!
I drove my 2001 Audi A4 1.8T to a training,1 hour drive from where i live,both ways,drive fine.
I get back home,go up stars for 2 minutes, came back down and got in the car, started it up,press the gas and what do you know? NO POWER! the rpm revs up like crazy but i'm barely moving, takes me a bit to get up to speed.
Check engine light is on like a muda fugga
so i call my favorite Russian mechanic at the dealership, where i purchased the car. i tell him the situation,he tells me to bring it in,it might be something simple.
I bring it by 15 minutes later and he hooks up his scan tool,i forget the code,he printed out the code from his scan tool. i left it in my A4,i'm driving my 1997 vw jetta for now
The whole time,he doesn't really say anything to me,then he gets up and goes in the garage and gets some tools, then he begins fiddle faddlin around the passenger side floor,he finally gets it off and i see a bunch of wires, then he pulls up under the passenger side floor, there sits a black box, either in the box or attached to it,is a silver box thingie,he disconnects it from cable and sniffs and smells it(guess to see if it shorted out)then he connects it back and turns the key in the on position, then after about 15 minutes of pressing buttons on his scan tool and sifting through all kinds of menus,he turns to me and says"your transmission control module is dead, its gonna cost you 400.00 to get a brand new one from a Audi dealership.
He told me that its probably best not to drive it in its current condition,he said he will hold on to the TCM,i dunno why he needed to hold it,is that strange that he wanted to keep it until a replacement arrives? He said i could drive it fine without one,in its condition, its as good as driving without one anyway. I asked him can i get one from a junkyard and he says that the TCM has to be from the same type of car. I was a bit skeptical,i mean is it possible, for him to simple"reprogram" or "repair" the TCM,then tell me he ordered another one from the Audi dealership? just so he can charge me 400.00? I may be just paranoid here,i think its legit off hand simple because he offered his 20% discount. so i just don't know..if anyone know anything about these transmission control modules and if they can or cannot be reprogrammed or repaired, please chime in and let me know if i am being robbed or helped.
He told me to call him, first thing in the morning to remind him to call the Audi dealership, then he'll call me with the final price.
He didn't even take long to take the thing out,i'd say he took from start to finish, about 20-25 minutes to take the TCM out from the passenger side floor panel. so the labor shouldn't be too bad.
He also mentioned that he was surprised to see that the compartment where the TCM was located in my car was "dry" as most of the time,he finds water there, that causes the TCM to short.
So there you have it,my first check engine light and its a DOOSY!!
I'll take a picture of the TCM and the passenger side floor, when i get a chance tomorrow,so you guys know, where its located(for those of you who didn't know it was there, like me.

one thing is age. even electronics go bad with age lol. hit devil up though, we jump on audis at the junkyard for key parts. 185 is a little high but not too bad though. what i tell people when they have TCM problem is to buy a manual lol

I am in a jam,it picked the wrong time to falfuction on me,its the begining of the month, rent is due, bills are due and to top it off,im on my off payday week,i get paid bi-weekly,so i won't get paid for another week, depending on if you guys have one and are willing to sell it for cheap,i won't be driving my 2001 Audi A4 for a week or more

Here is a few pics of her below,as she was, when she was working
