Its easy to split the case and check the gears once the tranny is out, so it won't be hard to inspect it. Having trouble shifting into reverse can either be a shift fork problem or a chewed up scynchro so its worth a look.

Thanks buddy. Please don't go on vacation or go to the bathroom when not absolutely necessary during the next few weeks

Sweet.

Unfortunately, after thinking this through, I don't think I'm going to be able to find anyone, even an audi tech, who would be able to replace the synchros for me as a side job. Having access to a hydraulic press is the main problem. None of my audi tech buddies have one in their garage. Them doing a side job and being able to use dealer equiptment is almost an impossibility. I hate ammco with a pasion, and I want to do this as inexpenssive as possible. Dare I trust Aamco with such a thing? Would they even accept a tranny that is already out of the car to replace the synchros? I guess your guesses are as good as mine. I'll have to make a call tomorrow.

AAMCO will do anything if you pay them to do it, they won't touch CVT's because they don't know how to build them. Check to see if any of them have audi knowledge, if they don't, then find yourself a used tranny from shokan or an auto wrecker. Can't be that hard to find one for cheap.

I'm seeing them used for $300-$400 with decent listed mileage (which I don't trust is accurate in most cases). My only concern is shipping costs. I doubt there is anything local available.

Emil those headlights arent my thing. The tails are better than what I'm dealing with though for sure.

^^ LOL at the thread hijack there. And I personally hate the look of halo's on audi's and I think I'll let some other people chime in about the tails... But maybe onepointeight can sell you his tails.

Shipping of transmissions usually aren't cheap, they charge by the pound of the crate, maybe about $100 for each state line it has to cross. So checking locally would be the best place to start.
