Thermostst install - RTV needed?

does it work to just use the O-ring on the thermostat install on the 2.8? (probably the same as 1.8T) When I took it off there was some RTV on there too. Just wondering if they typically seal fine with no RTV? Thanks!

Should do fine with just the o-ring. In fact, alittle too much rtv with make it the only seal and the o-ring useless. You can grease the o-ring with vasoline though...

i have in the past on non audi cars used a little rtv to hold the "O" ring on to the thermstat on so it doesn't fall off when im trying to install the therostat but have never used rtv to seal the thermostat
