Default Tranny Help Please!!!

Ok so i own a 99 a4 quattro 2.8l 5 speed

Yesterday I was driving and i was turning a corner I went from neutral to 2nd and nothing happened.

It went into gear but did not engage. I tried all gears including reverse and nothing.

So i took the car to my friend and he thinks it is the tranny.

My question to you is do i need a specific type of tranny since it is a quattro?

Where can i get a tranny? I was looking on ebay and saw some with code DVZ would that work?

Any suggestions would be amazing as I am really nervous as to how much money i am going to spend.

Thanks

when you put it in gear, does the RPM needle AND speedometer needle move?

if you look in your trunk where your spare tire is, there is a sticker and it tells you the transmission code. you will need to get the same code

check your axles. the symptoms you described sound like an axle came out.

yea, if the speedometer moves but the car doesnt go anywhere one of your half shafts probably fell off. if the speedo doesnt move then your clutch probably went.

its a 5 speed i dont know why you would ever have to replace the entire thing unless you destroyed a gear or broke the housing somehow. but any transmission with an 01A bellhousing will fit.
