transmission info
So I have a 98 1.8t aeb 5spd auto nontip.
I have searched and could not find the info i need.
First the problem. Every time I go up a hill the trany will not shift. Id be in 2nd gear and the rpms will go up to 4500 and sit there tell it levels out. My guess it would be low on fluid. So I was going to just drian and fill.
Is the fill plug on the bottom next to the drain plug. Where you have to shove a hose in there and pump it in like the tip trany?
Do I need that 12 point tool? I know you do for the tip trany but do you need it for the nontip? Do I NEED to get the audis ATF or can I go to auto zone and pick up some fluid there? I will be doing a full flush and filter just not now.
I have being searching for a while now and just cant find this info. Some links or just help me out would be nice.
Thanks

Hmmm.. I thought that only 96 and 97 didn't have tip. Or do have a manual shift option on the shifter but just not the steering wheel?
Have your ecu scanned for faults first. There may be a trans fault, maybe it could be the vehicle/rpm speed sensor on the trans.
If the trans fluid is low enough to cause shifting problems I think there would have to be a leak. Is there?
This link shows the steps and lists some alternative fluids, I think, but I'd use Pentosin myself.
