Default Transmission sources - central VA

So my 2000 1.8 auto quatro finally spit the bit. It has a huge trans fluid leak from the front seal. I pulled the tranny and found that the metal bushing in the front pump seized on the torque conv shaft and spun in the pump. So I'm probably looking at a pump and torque converter at the very least. With 120k on the clock, I would like to just get a new or remanufactured transmission and feel confident that I will only have to do this job once! What a bear it is to remove and replace! I don't have a lot of confidence in most transmission shops. Does anyone know where I can source a good auto transmission for my car? I found a place called European Transmissions in Georgia, but I also see some reviews of them that are not too promising. btw I'm in Richmond VA. Thanks

Only thing i can suggest is log in to WWW.yelp.com and run a search for transmission shops and you should get hits with reviews of people that have done business with shops.

I had my 2001 Audi A4's Automatic tranny replaced a year ago, tranny would only shift in 1st,2nd, and 3rd gear, wouldn't shift in 4th or 5th gear.

I had an independent shop find a used tranny with 70.00 miles on it for 1k(supposedly,who knows how much they really got for it ) and charge me 400.00 to put that in plus tranny filter and fluid...came to 1,588.00.

Changed a rear main seal leak and oil filter housing leak about a month later, cost about $700.00 for that,i didn't mind putting money into it as i paid 5,300.00 for her only about 3 years ago in 2009,so i had to protect my investment.

Good luck with your search friend...

Eriksson Industries

Give these guys a call. They are an authorized ZF rebuilder , have used them many times with no problems.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have found a local shop (Gammon Transmissions) in Richmond that does ZF transmissions. I'll see how it goes and report back. Maybe we should create our own Angie's List for Audi service nationwide! Thanks again.
