Are you certain about the dimensions on that turbine rotor? Those specs are for a normal K03. I would expect -- at minimum -- a 46/42 wheel from the K04-015.

Pretty sure. Keep in mind its using a K03 housing.

Here is the boost curve (again: with a 'no info what's in there' "TAP Stage 2 chip":

Here are some pics of the turbo:

There have been other hybrid K04's for the A4. Neuspeed had a SK04 and there was the E05, but both of them failed to stay together. It is always going to be hard to find a tune that will get everything out of the turbo.

For you the PC16 tune might work since it uses larger injectors. Its just really tuff doing these special turbos on the narrow band 02 sensor cars since the ECU doesn't really adjust on the fly at WOT.

That boost curve makes sense given the restrictions of your K03 turbine rotor. The software has to pull back boost to protect against exhaust manifold backpressure and over-hot EGTs. What does VAG-COM show your MAF to be reading? 170-ish?

I have not 'learned' VAGcom yet. Need to familiarize with "logging'. With this respect, what values should I log (and which one is the MAF you refer to?).
I really would like to learn what the current limits are.

Regarding PC16: that's the file I identified as the most suited 'off the shelf' one out there. But I haven't found anybody to either
- load it to my stock ECU
- chip my stock ECU
- offer me a matching, chipped ECU with the file
ECU number (I have one stock trained, one stock, and one TAP chipped):
8D0 907 557 P

Block 003 for the maf readings.

Any GIAC dealer should be able to flash your ecu with the PC16 file. If you cant let me know and I can talk to my friends at GIAC.

Mike:

When logging, what aside from 003 should I log in the file?
Pulls for logging: WOT in 2nd or 3rd?

PC16: what does GIAC charge if I send them my trained stock ECU?
PC16: off my head: stock injector, 5 bar fuel pressure; or larger injector (what cc and what 'model/color'?) and 3 bar fuel pressure?

Thanks Mike; hefty $ for an off the shelf file. No one on the forums has responded to my 'wanted' ad. Will look up who/if there is a local and competent GIAC dealer here in the area (MI).

If the turbine is holding me back, I have easy access to K04 (and myself have a bunch of K26, K27 lying around) and may pop them in if/when the PC16 is around. Not sure if connections (manifold, exhaust out, air in/out, oil, water, etc.) are 100% bolt on or need mods.

I like everything with the current setup (perfect=stock driveability, decent torque (always above stock, from 700 RPM on; probably more power than a few of the BT setups out there up to 4000 rpm), response (there is lag, but nice). Ideal would be to keep the current boost for a 1000 or 2000 rpm longer for the few times when a 'fun run' in 3rd is asked for.

Are you able to cannibalize a turbine rotor from a K04? To use it you'd need to machine your turbo's turbine housing to fit it. Plus you'd need to balance the rotating assembly when you have the replacement turbine rotor on it. Seems like a lot of work.
