I have no experience with Dodge.
I'm trying to understand what the issue is here - is it power, or mass?
Because, there are S4's here in the UK with over 600PS - I know of a 700PS car, an S4 with an uprated, high-spec RS4 motor. It's quick in a straight line, AND on the track.
The RS4 motor (AZR) weighs a fair bit more than the ABZ / AHC V8. With that level of power, it definitely exceeds a stock Audi V8 motor's output too.
There IS a Golf I here, with an Audi S2 I5 motor slung way ahead of the front suspension. It's running quattro drive too. I saw the car in the flesh, and thought, no way would it work, the engine was practically bolted to the headlamps, it sat so far forward!
This Golf I (dubweiser.co.uk) has cleaned up on the track consistently. I didn't think it was possible, but it does! Power output is 520PS.
There's also an Audi TT here, running a 550PS S4 Biturbo (dialynx.co.uk). It's a track weapon, and does consistently well. Bearing in mind, these are cars that started life with transverse engine / transmission. The Golf I is also a very short car.
The V8 is the same weight as the S2 cast iron I5, butthe I5 sitsconsiderably further forwards in a shortGolf I. How it was made to handle, is anybody's guess. But, it does go to show that handling issues, due to excessive forward mass and power can be overcome with the right suspension set-up.
With regards to the LS1 option the original poster mentioned, it's shorter than the Audi V8, even with an adapter plate.

Nice list of cars. There is a A4by 034motorsportwith a 12v VR6 motor in it making huge power and is made into a nice track car. Not to many other make that kind of stuff here unfortunitlyORIGINAL: Siena

quick out of the blue question. has anyone ever seen an i5 turbo engine (i dont know the engine code for it) in a b5? theres an audi 90 or 100 at the local pick and pull with one and i have always admired that engine except this one looks like it has some kind of mechanical injection system on it (i could be wrong, it was a while ago that i saw it). i have alot of projects right now but my a4 is nearing 170k. maybe time for a new powerplant? id asume these engine dont bolt up to the stock a4 tranny right?

Dalhback i believe has one in their racing gti. It it can replace a 1.8t, it should be able to replace a V6. Just not sure what parts are all needed.

didnt think so. i just did a quick search and found the engine i saw. its not the good i5t (ANN i think), its the older weaker i5t. oh well, ill keep an eye out for the good one.

People have put Chevy motors in Rx7's and aEvo. I have also seen Honda motors in all kinds of cars, Lotus, 240's, etc. Its really not that uncommon. Some have even run chevy motors in their Fords and vise versa.
Hell, just about evey drag car runs a Hemi engine no matter whats on the side of the car.
