Talking Wastegate adjustments

is there a stock wastegate on the 1.8t FWD a4 that i can adjust to make my turbo blow off more to get that sexy sound?
if so how can i do it
if not what can i do to get that sound on the cheaper side of things
(not interested in an exhaust whistler or whatever they are called)

Appreciate it

Alex

You should look into what the function of the wastegate is, you've got your terminology wrong. The wastegate controls the flow of exhaust gas across the turbine; the more open the wastegate is, the more gas flows away from the turbine and thus less boost.

You're thinking of the diverter valve, which opens when subjected to vacuum from the intake manifold. Your best bet to make the "swoosh" more audible is to either install a cone filter to replace the air box (2.75") or drill large-ish holes in the bottom of the air box. Theoretically yet another option is to install a BOV (blow-off valve) in place of the diverter valve but this isn't a good idea because the ECU expects that air to be recirculated... they do make "hybrid" BOVs that make noise AND still recirculate. Do a search for Forge Splitter to find one such example.

Also, many future questions you have can be answered by the sticky'd FAQ at the top of the B5 forum. Here's the link in case you have managed to fail at finding it:

Also may want to go to www.turbobygarrett.com and read at least turbo tech 101 and 102.

Wasn't my intention... and hiding behind a keyboard? C'mon, this is the Internet after all. If you'd like, instead of typing we can have a webcam chat session and I'll be happy to answer your questions that way.

If your looking for the sound and dont have a splitter diverter valve then putting a Cold air intake on it will give you a little bit more sound!!
