Default Water ingress tin drivers footwell

Hi,

When it rains I have water leaking in behind the dashboard from the top on the drivers side. The water leaks down behind the dash and down the wires and causes problems with the throttle position switch to short out and the traction control light to illuminate. The car then has to be stopped as you cannot apply power. This problem is also causing problem with warining messages apperaing on the dash such as bulb failures but the bulbs are fine.

I can sometimes hear water sloshing about behind the dash (drivers side) and see water on the accelarator peddle and the carpet in the drivers footwell. I broke down again this morning as its pouring down and had to take the bottom dash cover off and clean\dry the throttle position switch then I could drive off.

I am not sure where the water is coming in from? would it be a blocked drain or leaking in from the botttom of the windscreen?

Cheers
Chimaera

topic is in here a lot. use search feature for most common solutions. Some models more predisposed it seems. Clogged drains below windshield is one and condensation from AC is another. Welcome to AF by the way. You will find the search feature with some key words is a great source of info. Good luck.

You should definitely look into cleaning out your sunroof drains. I think that's the most common source of water that makes its way inside. I have only ever seen water inside my car once and when it happened, it was because the drain under the battery was clogged with leaves. It's worth pulling the battery to check. Make sure you have your radio code if you have the stock headunit.

clean the crap out of your cowl area where the battery sits.

3 usual culprits.

1. Cowl where the battery is. Check the drain.
2. Air conditioning condensation drain. Access from underneath the car and poke some stiff wire up. If a gallow of water comes out, you have found your problem..
3. Doubt it is the sunroof drain holes, but you might as well check them.
