Might be getting the head gasket on my 2.8 replaced. Anyone know what I should expect to be paying? Thanx

I think the book time is 7.5 hours for a 2.8. Expect to pay $800-$900 at a shop. Parts would be around $200 for the gasket set and belts if you diy.

and I would say your experience is a very rare exception. A clutch is a ~6 hour job. A clutch/fw costs ~150 by itself. That means he is charging ~$33/hour. Most shops charge minimum $80/hour and more like $100 at the dealer. In other words, lucky YOU!

Yeah an audi tech could do it with his eyes closed in about 4 hours. I wouldn't be very motivated if I knew I was only getting paid $350 for that job. It took me about 13 hours to do mine the first time. Fun, but not.
