What did you do to your B5 today?
Awesome, I mean awesome input here!
I recently contacted Oliver with Speedtuning and his response wasn't 100% reassuring, but it does make "some sense." He said because the tune was written for a K04 turbo, the situation "in his opinion" is played out so to speak....
For example, he said "let me know how it runs with your K03s".....so IMO that means he's not sure what will happen....
At one point, he thought my car came with a 3.5BAR FPR, but didn't argue when I said it comes with a 4BAR stock. He asked me if I had used a Vag-Com for any rich/lean codes, and luckily nothing showed up upon scanning it about 2 weeks ago. In his opinion, he thought I could run a 5BAR with this tune, however if there were no "known codes for fuel related issues" upon the Vag-Com, he said "why make adjustments at this point with no known issues."
I'm not 100% confident with where I'm at, however I do feel "ok" I suppose knowing Vag-Com didn't show any active codes as of 2 weeks ago. My question for you Metal Man would be whether and/or how I'm able to run further fueling tests using Vag-Com? I've never personally used the device, it's my uncle (personal mechanic who owns his Audi/VW shop) that takes care of repairs/Etc. for me. However, I've only seen him scan the vehicle for active codes, I don't recall him using it for running further tests.....so maybe that's what I need to look into and let him know it's a good idea to know where my vehicle is at with fueling values, or anything else for that matter in making sure everything is running tip-top with this "new tune" ....
"Edit" To break down the paragraph above....is there another way to tell if I'm running lean/rich other than active Vag-Come trouble codes? Is the unit capable of finding deeper issues without active codes being thrown? It seems that the vehicle is running good though, no lean/rich active codes as of yet, no smoke, etc etc......seems to be running strong from what I can tell.....
What do you think?
Thanks again for the time you're taking to help me gain insight on the situation! Much appreciated!

Your ECU uses/adjusts fuel trims based on air intake and O2 sensor readings, and this is a good point of reference as well. Ideally fuel trims would be 0%, but -10% to 10% is considered acceptable. Anything outside that range generally means something is not quite right.

VAG-COM can be used to actively log engine performance, aside from simply reading fault codes. So from that perspective if you take engine logs you can go through them and see what your fueling/air/timing look like.

I honestly think my current tune is very close to the less-aggressive GIAC K04 tune
"X2T04 Tune-Required: K-04 Turbo, 5bar FPR, Exhaust, Intercooler 50 - 70 HP 70 - 90 Ft/Lbs."
With the Hammer File and necessary/required mods that I don't already have, I'm guessing the gain would only be 20-30 HP and 20-30 Ft. Lbs to the crank since I have the test pipe, and neither of these GIAC tune requirements mention a test pipe, but of course it's going to add a little something. I suppose the K04 would also hold more power at higher RPM's too .....something that would be nice, however I don't see it being a "massive improvement" since I have the K03s versus the K03.
According to the GIAC website anyway the Hammer file....."X3FT04 Tune-Required: K04-15 turbo, exhaust, inter-cooler, intake, 380cc injectors, 225TT MAF. 55 - 90 HP 65 - 110 Ft/Lbs."
Like I mentioned before, I had the Speedtuning Stage 1 software with just a test pipe and diverter valve from the 225 TT for approximately 5 years. The difference it made by adding a full exhaust and the mild K04 tune by Speedtuning, it feels like enough to hold me over for awhile, and only cost me a total of $600 to do so ($415 for XS-Power exhaust shipped, and $190 for tune as a repeat customer which included overnight shipping USPS both ways). $600 was feasible given the vehicles age and power to cost value, but another $1500 for probably the same or even less gain than I had jumping from the Stage 1 to Stage 3 mild K04 tune (per Speedtuning), nah I don't think so...kinda funny how they refer to the K04 tune as Stage 3, but it is what it is I guess....
If and when my turbo goes out, I'll probably just find another used K03s and keep everything I have....again based on the age of the vehicle and value to performance gain ratio. Once I get another 1.8T......that's when I'll go straight to something bigger (at least Franken)....only time will tell.

I bought it a big brother - got a 2003 540i MSport. Black on black, cold weather package, MParallel wheels, nav system, Harmon Kardon audio. Comes with the M Technik package (bumpers, rockers, sills, seats, steering wheel, and suspension from the M5), and it's rated at 290hp/324tq from the V8. It'll definitely make a nice addition to the family.

On my B5 today, I got to reinstall the old, worn out lower control arms because I received the wrong parts. Notice the different ball joint taper...
I'm still lurking and swinging the banhammer as needed
Work has been crazy the last year and my kids are all in activities so there's not a lot of leisure time these days. Still kicking and still around though

First day off in 10 so I took it out and beat the **** out of it. A couple of 130+ mph blast down the Autobahn. It's at almost 195,000 miles now. Still no issues except my radio won't receive any stations, I checked the antenna connections and they're good. Time to sell it. or I'll give it to my wife and get that S6 I've been drooling over.
