Haha. Good pick up tho. I'm just surprised its not an Audi. How is it gonna handle in the snow?

It'll handle the snow just fine from the garage - the A4 stays for winter duty and splitting daily driver status. I got this because I needed a bigger car, I always loved the E39, and I'm not much of an A6 fan. And I may be nearly a senior citizen at 39, but mentally I can't see driving a D3 yet. Plus being an M Technik and limited edition, it was too hard to pass up.

Not that I tried to talk myself out of it or anything

With proper tires he'll be fine. I see plenty of non-xdrive BMWs at the slopes all the time

Just out of curiosity, what about the A6 don't you like? I used to want the A6 with a 4.2, something around 2003-2005 which have good power and AWD, I like the flared wheel wells and body on those quite a bit. I really like the newer 4.2's and 3.0T (Supercharged), but of course cost is an issue with those, at least for me.

My uncle has been working on Audi's and VW's for over 24 years, starting at an Audi/Porsche dealership near St. Paul MN, acting as the head ASE certified there, and recently opening up his own private Audi/VW/Porsche shop the past 5 years. According to him, the 2.0T is a bomb! He has seen more of those engines blows than anything else by far. The 2.7's often have issues too, right around the 100K mark, and are expensive to fix because of part costs compared to other engines. Surprising to me, he said the 3.2 is very tough, and so far has been one of Audi's most reliable engines he has seen since coming out, not bad on power either from when I test drove one.

Ditto on both accounts. E39 is/was gorgeous, then Bangle made them look like a frigg'n Lexus. And as much as I like the last 10 years I've spent driving B5's, the A6 has never done anything for me.

They've had two big problems I know of:
  1. Cam follower that drives the high pressure fuel pump. It goes on all 2.0T's. At least the early ones. I believe they've updated it now.
  2. Oil pick up screen. The condensation in the oil can freeze on it and starve the motor. And if there is one thing that needs a constant supply of oil, it's a turbocharged motor!
Sounds like Uncle is at Maplewood Audi?

Why get rid of something that hasn't given you any troubles?

I plasti dipped the lower front bumper valance I got yesterday from the junk yard. Damn it looks good. I will have to wait until it's warmer out to do the rest of the trim.

Also plasti dipped the rear badges. I need to do the one on the grill next.

I'm not a fan of chrome at all in case you couldn't tell.
