What should power off when keys are out of ignition?!
Hey everybody,
I have a simple question, and one i am sure anybody here can help me with. I have a 1995(n reg) A4 1.9 TDI.
When i turn off the ignition and remove the keys, I still have power to the ciggy lighter, and to the stereo.
In all my previous cars (none audi) removing the keys from the ignition would kill the power to these items.
I tried locking the car with the items still on, thinking that maybe it would kill the power, however this also didn't work.
It might sound like a silly thing to be asking, but I am installing a new head unit soon, which will be quite hungry for power, so want to make sure i don't come back to a dead battery.
Can somebody let me know if my car is behaving as it should, or if something is wrong?
Many thanks in advance

I'm not sure about the stereo, that sounds a bit off to me. I could be wrong though, cuz I bought mine with an aftermarket stereo and it very clearly turns off when the key is out of the ignition. The cig lighter tho I think is supposed to maintain power, if its not supposed to well it should IMO cuz its really convenient to be able to use it for a phone or ipod charger without having to turn the car on. Mine maintains power, I've used it to charge things multiple times so I'd say that's normal, but the stereo not turning off sounds fishy to me.

My '96 turns the radio off when I remove the key. If I leave it in, and the radio is on, it stays on. Once the key is removed, it turns off BUT, if I turn the radio off, then on, it stays on for 1 hour at which time it shuts off to save the battery. Works great when working on the car or at the drive-in. The cigg lighter staying on is normal. Kinda sux when using a GPS as it stays on requiring me to manually put it into stand-by.

chers for the info guys,
I know its an old thread, but I realise that I forgot to come back and thank you for the replies.
I never did work it out, as about 2 days after posting this I blew the gearbox, so scrapped the car
