I have a manual 97 2.8 quattro. Recently i have noticed a whining noise that comes and goes when i shift. When i increase in rpm's it gets higher and as i shift the whining noise sounds decreases as the rpm goes back down. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Also since this started to occur the check engine light had come on.

Where does the whining noise come from?

 

it sounds to me and i may be wrong, but under the driver's side hood by the fire wall...

 

here when my clutch was replaced the abs sensor was knocked out of place and that was what was causing the noises that i heard.
