Will 225/50/18 fit on a 2001 A4?
Looking to buy a set of 18 rims and I want to fita big tire on them. I'd rather not put on a 40, as a 50 will give me more sidewall. Has anyone ever put a 50 on their car or does everyone just stay with the 40.
I’m probably going with the ASA RS1s (black with machined lips). Is there anything I should be aware of? I have read that they are a soft rim, which is kind of why I want a bigger tire. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Mike.

I'm running 40-series tires (225-40-18) on a lipped rim, and I haven't had any trouble. I am vigilant about dodging potholes and the like, which certainly helps. Remember two things here - one, a low-profile tire has more reinforcement in the sidewalls to help protect against wheel damage, and you also typically run a little higher tire pressure on lower tires (on my OEM 16" tires - 205-55-16) I ran 36-38psi, but on these I run about 40psi. Second, if you run a 225-50-18, you're going to completely screw up your speedometer/odometer calibration. At 60mph indicated speed, your actual road speed is 64.2mph, a difference of 7.1%. Your odometer will be messed up by a corresponding percentage. It's up to you if you want to deal with that and constantly be calculating your actual speed based on indicated speed - especially when a surprise speed trap pops up in front of you.
^^^ what he said, i run the same size tire at about 36 psi, and i roll right over most imperfections in the road. besides, a sidewall that big on 18's will look like crap. like a funny cartoon car almost. i wouldn't do it.

ASA rims aren't just soft, they are sometimes not even true from the factory. Spend more money on better quality rims or go with 17"s if you are concerned about ride quality or wheel damage.
a 55 will fit if you dont lower it. If you lower it than it will be hell, but like mentioned about why would you want a 55 profile tire?? get a 40 profile.
I have 225 40 18 and im lowered 2.5" in front and 2.25" in back and i rub sometimes in the front but never in the back

I had 17x7.5 wheels before my current 18s, and ran S4-sizing (235-45-17). It was a nice look, with enough sidewall to absorb some of the bumps that I feel on my 18s.
