Default Winter Projects

Well, after almost a month of research and thinking and more research and more thinking, I've decided to keep my A4. It needs a lot of work, and I very seriously considered unloading it for a newer A4 or a 3 series, but I just couldn't part with it. So. Now that I've decided, I can spend all winter collecting parts....

Maintenance stuff:
-Orbital slotted rotors for all four corners with new Meyle pads
-Stainless brake lines to replace the undoubtedly worn out stock rubber ones
-New control arms/TRE's for the passenger's side front (the only ones left that I haven't replaced already)
-Rear wheel bearings
-cleaning/replacing crusty EGR valve (CEL)

Secondary (but more fun) stuff:
-Fog lights to replace the ones I lost when I did the 2-to-1-piece headlight conversion
-Replacing my leaky exhaust with new piping to a new (and yet-to-be-determined) muffler
-Installing the intake that has been sitting in my closet for ~9 months and fabbing a heat shield for it
-Replace the now doo-doo colored coolant expansion tank with a sexy new white one

That should get me well into spring/summer 2010 lol. Any thoughts/suggestions/input is greatly appreciated as always. Anyone else have any plans for the winter season besides figure 8's in empty parking lots?

Sounds like a plan! I bet you're gonna fall in love with the car all over again once you're done with the to-do list. Everytime I do something new to it, I always smile every time I see it and always want to drive it.

I think Borla is the common setup for our cars but if you can get ahold of the Remus, I'd personally go with that. I always love the sound coming from those mufflers/exhausts.

I think for winter I'm gonna go with lower width tires and get the wheels to poke some more. Also thinking of replacing all the lines to prevent further boost leak.

Keep us updated with the work!

Yeah Borla and Remus were on my list, as well as Magnaflow and Flowmaster. I'm not interested in a big expensive full cat back system, just a custom job with a nice muffler. I'll do some looking around over the winter.

I agree with you though, I think once I'm done with all this junk I'm gonna be obsessed all over again lol.

by the time you get done with that brake upgrade, you could probably do the a8/tt upgrade from ecs - have it and love it oh and i had magnaflow on my last a4 and loved it... but definately leave room for a resonator in whatever setup you end up going with!!!!!

I thought about the A8/TT setup but I don't plan on upgrading my wheels for another year or so and was worried about the calipers clearing the wheels. Anyone know if that's an issue?

Re: the muffler/res, I had planned on leaving in the stock resonator, as this will be my DD and I want to minimize the sound inside the cabin. Any thoughts/recommendations?

So next year will be coilovers and wheels? I can't wait for that!

I think ImTheDevil has the A8/TT upgrade. He should know if they will fit the stock wheels.

The A8 BBK clears stock 16", but that is the smallest wheel size that will work

I have a question on that A8/TT upgrade. Some have said it can be had for $250.00, but when I saw the ECS site there was $650 setup. Could someone link to the actual kit for our cars and any differences with the higher priced kits?

$250 probably involves the junkyard for caliper brackets and such.

Nope, $250 is for new components - TT carriers and blank rotors. Upgrading to slotted or drilled/slotted will kick it up around $300. Here they are:

blanks for $250:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...rake_OEM/ES89/

slotted for $300:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...rake_OEM/ES90/

slotted/drilled for $300:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...rake_OEM/ES91/

And to confirm what was stated above, the kit WILL fit under OEM 16" wheels. CCA4, if you do brakes and don't get this kit, I'll drive down there and beat you with your old rotors
