Default Wiper Issues Please Help

Ok so another problem with my B5. I have a 99 quattro and my wipers are giving me issues here is what is going on.

For the last 2 weeks my wipers were moving really slow....if i put it to a higher level nothing still the same speed. It looked as if it was struggling to move. Then last week they would turn on and then get stuck half way up and just stay there.

Yesterday it rained and of course they didnt turn on at all...so the progreesion has gotten worse and I am trying to figure out the best and cheapest way to solve this issue.

I am unsure what I should do. Also how hard is it to replace the linkage or the motor? I have done some work on my audi and some other cars like brakes alternator, starter radiator , water pumps...etc but is this a job that would be too difficult for me to do?

Thanks

The linkage will seize up a lot on the B5s or it can actually be the wiper transmission itself. It happened to me and I just took it to the dealer because I didn't feel like messing with it. It costs $300 to fix.

I know there's a bunch of DIYs around if you search. I heard its not too bad to do, but you have to be careful you don't break the windshield or anything.
