Default won't start when cold

I just picked up a 96 A4 the other day and when it's cold out (under 20*F) the car will not start. When I turn the key to the run position all but the top right square dash light comes on. Is that the CEL light? The engine turns over, but doesn't fire. The prevoius owner looks to have used ether when this happened as I found an empty can in the trunk. Would anyone have any ideas or places I could start?

I don't have a code scanner and the car is one town over stuck in a parking lot until I either get it running or trailer it home.

Underneath the odometer, where the trip is, it shows "ln2".

Here's some explanation on what "ln2" is: https://www.audiforums.com/forum/aud...ppearing-4956/

I'd look at your coolant temperature sensor and go from there. get it scanned for more, detailed analysis.

That's the direction I was headed. Is there anyway to disconnect that sensor and get the computer to run in an open loop? Basically is there anyway to fool the computer to go to a default fuel mapping?
