wait wait wait, i'm having trouble understanding too.

so you infact CHANGED your oil, and not just put the old oil back in?

i thought you meant it only read 1/3rd way from min to max on the dip stick. the oil level in the dip stick holder is 1/3rd way up!?

i changed the oil. and when i was done i put the old oil in the bottle the new oil came in. i think that for some reason i ended up with too much oil in the dip stick. i drove out to an audi mechanic (the guy who i bought the car from) and while i was on my way the car acted weird. i ahev a check engine light, and it felt like the transmission didnt engage a couple of times after trying to go from a stop sign. the rpms went up and it suddenly engaged. the mechanic told me that i ahve too much oil so i will drain some after it cools down a bit cuz i dont want to burn my hands lol

I think you drained yor transmission. and then filled the crancase with a new 5 qts of oil essentially doubling the oil you should have in the motor while having zero fluid in your trans.

You definitely drained your transmission...you're the 2nd person to do this recently.

The weird shifting and engine light are because you're out of tranny fluid.

You probably toasted your trans~

trans fluid needs to be pumped in from under the car. there is no dip stick or fill hole in the engine compartment..

read this

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...servicing.html

i used it to fill my trans

btw atf aint cheap.

the write up says to use only Audi ATF. but i used redline. but i had to look up which to buy because there is a difference with the ATF fluids..

i bought this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RED-30504/

i bought 10 qts cause im pretty sure the car takes 9

if u want to push the mile. i wouldn't recommend it. the trans will get really hot and prob blow. if u took it really slow maybe keep it in tip and keep the gears high and rpm low, you might be good. but if it were me, id keep the car home.
