This is like the second time I read about this happening in the past week. I think this calls for a sticky to remind people how to do an oil change dot dot dot

so i have yet to change the oil in my 2.8. could anybody take a picture and show which plug is for oil and which is for tranny, so i don't have the same mistake?

or is it easily identifiable. i have done many oil changes in my dads truck/sister's and mom's cars.

you're not puttin the O-rings in the rocket boosters here guys. The drain plug is at the lowest point on the oil pan on the driver's side. It's a 19 or 20mm socket IIRC. No idea how you managed to drain the tranny by mistake.

As for what oil to put back in it, any ATF is better than no ATF right? take mom's car over to AutoZone and buy whatever they have in stock. After you make sure you didn't just fry your motor and/or your tranny, THEN worry about what zee Germans want you to put in there.

sounds like this was your first time doing an oil change and you did it without reading up on it. the deep stick doesn't like but it looks like you're in deep **** now.

JC post what to put in the tranny. get that stuff and put it in there unless you want to be in even deeper **** by putting motor oil in the tranny. also there's no deep stick to measure the tranny fluid

mobile 1 makes synthetic ATF thats good for the tip.

https://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English...hetic_ATF.aspx

and like i said before with redline

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RED-30504/

i think autozone has the mobile 1 stuff.

but redline make sure its RED-30504 if you want to be **** about it the barcode is 83522305044

edit: also make sure you read this http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...servicing.html

dont follow it step by step, you dont need to remove the pan, just skip to the end where it talks about filling the trans

Driving the car, even a mile - would be incredibly ..."not smart".

You probably already toasted the trans on the drive before. It may work for a while, but it'll likely never be quite the same.

I too wonder how on earth people manage to screw an oil change up this badly, I'm by no means trying to insult you... but if you are this technically challenged - I applaud you attempting your own maint. But sometimes it's better to just take it somewhere

And yeah, I can't believe I've ready multiple happenings of this type of incident in recent weeks.

i got it figured out. the car is getting towed on monday to an audi mechanic that i bought the car from. he is charging me $100 labor and around $100 for the right oil that i need. and then i will have to pay $75 for the towing lol thats $75 for one mile! now that i think about it, its kinda a good thing that i fucked up cuz now i will never do that again and i got a tranny oil change out of it. 170k miles on a car that never had a tranny oil change before.
