04 T-belt question
Ok so this weekend I'm going to change out my timing belt along with the tensioner, pulley etc, all new parts. I remember coming across before, whether on this site or not a good write up on a B6 1.8t belt change and some tips and tricks regarding the change. Anyone have a link to this? Also when changing the pulley and tensioner, what do I do about adjusting the pulley. Do I adjust it back to where the old one is currently sitting, or do I set it some other way since the tensioner and pulley will be new. Someone once told me to set the new one the same as the old, but that doesn't quite make sense to me as the old one will have already move out more to take up any slack in the used belt. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

well your common sense serves you right about the tensioner.
you'll need a pair of snap ring pliers and a 8mm allen key to adjust the tensioner.
and i'd hope your planning on replacing the water pump as well.

yea the water pump is getting changed too. I just now have to find some place that sells the G12 coolant.
I found a bunch of write ups on the procedure and couldn't find anything about setting the pulley tension. I understand how it works but I'm wondering if there is a measurement. Basically how much tension should be on the belt to start, should it be at the beginning of the sweep to tension the belt, or some where in the middle. I just don't want to have it run out of sweep to loose tension in the long run.
I guess if all else fails I can pull the hydraulic tensioner unit and get a round idea where the pulley is to sit if that tensioner were compressed as when it went in at the factory.
