2004 A4 1.8T Quattro engine temp
Hi fellows,
I have 2004 A4 1.8T Quattro. I have some questions about my engine temp needle
position. When I drive around 30m/h, the needle position is right at the
middle. When I enter interstate and the speed goes to 60m/h, then the needle
quickly moves to 3/4 quarter position, and there is a beeper and dashboard has
"coolant" flashing, the needle continues to pass 3/4 position and gets close
to "H". So I have to slow the car down. What would be the likely cause?
Thanks a lot!

Low on coolant?
Leaky head gasket is also typical. Is your oil frothy? Or is your coolant sludgy and discolored?
Other possibilities, bad coolant temp sensor, stuck thermostat, bad waterpump, clogged radiator, or dead radiator fan.

just changed oil. added some coolant fluid (color is all right). Took it to a friend, he said could be thermostat.
Hope it's the thermostat, that's the first thing I replaced when my old audi started overheating...it didn't fix it. It was the water pump, the impeller wasn't broken but the bearing was shot. You could spin the gear but it wouldn't spin the impeller. That was a fun couple of days.
