A4 Vibration problem
I recently bought a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T with 180,000 kms on the clock. The car has been a pleasure until a month ago .... Started with a vibration so hubby replaced the plugs. The car was fine for 3 days then started vibrating again when idling and under load. The coil packs were replaced and a broken engine mounting replaced with no change. The vehicle has been plugged into three different computers and shows no fault codes. A compression test was done and all cylinders firing correctly. Four different mechanics plus the local Audi agent have looked at the car and cannot shed light on the cause of the vibration. We now suspect this could be due to a faulty flywheel (dual mass). Any suggestions?
Have found the cause of the vibration - nothing to do with the engine, misfire or injectors, etc. When we removed the engine and did some investigating, we found that the bearing in the centre of the secondary element in the dual-mass fly-wheel setup collapsed causing the secondary element to drop down and therefore causing an engine vibration. Glad we found the problem before it caused any damage to the gear-box, etc.
So, if your Audi develops a really bad vibration, feels like a diesel and there are no fault codes, chances are it's a dual-mass fly-wheel related problem.
