Audi A4 3.0 V6 smoke? is it normal?
Hey all. I'm buying an Audi A4 3.0 V6 quattro. Its used, year is 2003 and has 119k miles on it. Manual 6spd version. Its a clean title and one owner car. All the maintenance has been done including the dreaded timing belt and more.
Today I went to take it out for a test drive and noticed that it smokes a little when idling and when revving it puffs smoke, then clean for a second or two, then once back to idle, its starts to feed smoke again. It disappears pretty quickly. White smoke. Not black or blue.
It look a lot like this:
but the car i'm looking at has stock exhaust, heck, the whole car is stock.
watching this video (5minute and 10sec mark)
(seems like he revs on warm engine) it looks to me like that is a normal occurance?
Need some serious feedback. I'm no mechanic so my opinion would be uneducated.
Another observation, when standing behind the exhaust when car is being revved, the smell is hinting me of something like tailgating an old truck with smelly exhaust. Or better yet, like a go-cart smell. NOT strong smell, just a hint.

Both my A6 and my daughter's 2003 A4 3.0 (with 112k miles) smoke a little at start up and occasionally when shifting. Especially when cold outside, but that could be condensation. However, when thoroughly warmed up and/or running at constant highway speed there is no smoke. Both cars burn zero oil with changes every 7-8k. Is the car running dinosaur or synthetic oil?
