Default The B6 1.8t Intake thread to end them all? Maybe?

Hey guys, I was checking the forums to get opinions on doing a CAI (cold air intake) or just modding the stock a bit and I think I have come up with a final result.
The main point of any cold air intake on our car is just for an increase/change in sound correct? Power gains are minimal right?

What I am hearing from everyone is that the stock air box with a K&N high flow filter is the best way to go is it not?

I will take any body's input on what they feel is the best way to go. I am hoping to collect all the intake suggestions in one thread that way someone doesn't have to go to all the different ones that are just for one CAI or a stock box mod, like I did.

What I am planning on doing to my Intake is buying a K&N High flow, replacing the stock snorkel front piece (the piece that screws into the body by the headlight) with a v6 snorkel because it is wider (Pics below), maybe making a heat shield to keep even more heat out, and finally doing this mod: (sorry for linking another forum)
DIY : Air Box Mods for B6
(That's where I got the snorkel pic from as you can tell)

So I guess just let me know what setup has worked best for you and If anyone has done these mods. Thanks in advance.

Seems like a lot of people are viewing but no replies. I may have been confusing in the OP.

The goal of this thread is to hear what other people have done to their airboxes whether it may be a complete replace with a Cold Air or some mods and let us/me know how it turned out for ya.

If you wanna through in advice on what I am going to do to mine that would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

correct me if im wrong but i dont think the 3.0 air vent will match the holes with out 1.8
Im not 100% sure on that but im thinking the holes were spaced further apart. . . That would be my only problem with that. ohh and also take out all the sound deadening in the airbox. That helps alot with airflow and will get u that small bit of extra sound.

Thanks for the input Pa4ul. I heard about that sound deadening material trick. The sound that is produced after it is pulled out, is it similar to the sound of a cold air? Or is there still a big difference? And about the snorkel that link I posted in the original post the guy says that it is a b**** and a half to make it fit but it eventual does. So I don't know I'll check it out. Thanks for your reply and are you running the stock airbox with a high flow and the material pulled?

Oh okay I think I will try that. Thanks for the input Pa4ul. Are you chipped? As long as you got the high flow filter in the stock box it can handle the new demand for air right? Anyone else have a cold air that they would like to share their experience with?

I'm in the process of cleaning up the engine bay, so I'm getting the carbonio intake and engine cover just for the look. Also got an S4 power steering/ coolant reservoir cover for the driver side, it needs some chopping up, but should be nice when finished. I know that sounds ricey, but this car is going to be 3/4 show 1/4 go. Not alot I can do with an automatic.

Your not getting any real performance gains with an intake or an exhaust. Its even possible to loose HP. A chip just unlocks the performance restrictions in place for fuel economy purposes.

An engine is one big air pump which is measured in CFM. You increase intake and exhaust but the pumping capacity remains the same the only thing your really doing is making some "cool" sounds

Sorry for the extended break! Got caught up in school and midterms. A couple weekends ago I pulled out my airbox, slapped in the high flow, took the sound dampening material out (did anyone find a way to pull the inner frame out so you don't have to rip the material?), and put in the v6 snorkel. I took pictures and sound clips of before and after the sound dampening was out but I don't have them with me so I will post them when I have them. The snorkel was a pain in the ***! You have to angle just right and then help it into the cut out on the grill. It isn't a perfect fit but the opening difference is huge. The holes do line up once you get it in place as well. It makes my car look special from most 1.8's as well .

Audi Tek, Its cool to see you on the thread! Your right about not a huge hp gain but the high flow filter helps with economy and the dyno charts put out by K&N showing small hp increase for that filter can't be fake right? For 50 bucks I thought hey why not and the filters are more durable.

fire5414, I know what you mean about the show in a sense I am moving my car towards that as well. I don't think I am going to do a BT setup in the future, just a chip soon. I am also looking at that same power-steering cover you are, Does it really need a lot of chopping? I have seen some pictures of 1.8t guys with the cover and it looks like it fits perfect. Like the one attached. People that I see seem to have mixed luck. Some cant get it to fit without some hacking and others say it fits perfectly but I am not sure how the 1.8t guy in the picture got it attached.
