Coolant Temp Replaced gauge still off
Hi everybody. Well obviously I'm new, I've been researching my issue for a few days now. I recently bought an 02 A4 3.0 from my dealer well they were honest and advised me that the coolant sensor probably needed replacing. Well I replaced it the next day I bought the car. Well the gauge was reading right at half way point. My brother and I tried to bleed the coolant system, well once we opened up the screw closest to the thermostat, my gauge shot up passed the Hot on the gauge. Its been like that since, so I thought maybe my replacement sensor was faulty and replaced the Coolant sensor once again. The problem was still not fixed and continued to read passed the H. So I decided to disconnect the battery and my gauge was working properly, so I thought. Well once I got to work and turned off the car it shot up to the half way mark, and then once I drove home and shut the car off it shot up once again passed the H. This is my first european car, I've always had Japanese cars and still have my nissan. I'm really good with cars, and this car has me stumped! Enough to post on here. I was reading that the oil temp sensor could be the problem but would love more opinions.

hi :
did you manage to sort out the problem yet? i am having same problem with my audi A4 B6 1.9 TDI. I bought it a week ago the seller told me it was the sensor.i changed it this morning and no luck the gauge only moved slightly to the left exactly as shown on you photos. I think i will change the instrument cluster next cos i started to feel the gauge is faulty.
