Default Cracked instrument panel

I've lurked a bit and I've been unable to find this information or a part number on this site or anywhere else, so maybe you guys can help me:

The clear plastic cover over my instrument panel on my 2005 b6 is cracked up the middle and it looks like hell. It's just chintzy plastic and I'm guessing it cracked due to being fastened too tight combined with torsion on the car's front end as I made a sharp turn onto a steep hill.

I would love to fix this cheaply (i.e. myself). Does anyone know the part number of this thing? Has anyone else had to do this fix?

Forgot to mention that the dealer quoted me $700 to replace this, but I get the impression the rep I spoke with didn't understand the issue.

If anyone has taken apart the instrument panel, can you tell me if the plastic cover is a stand-alone part or is it somehow fused to the housing of the panel?

Same issue here with the crack but haven't had a chance to dig in to find anything yet. Just got the car last month so I haven't made it to cosmetic fixes yet.

In looking at mine there is a trim piece that looks like it should be able to be removed and expose the plastic cover.

I'm still waiting on my Chilton manual that I ordered. Will post again if I find anything.

Here is how you take the cluster out http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int12.shtml. I know that's not a B6 but they didn't make any big changes between now and then. It does look like the whole cluster has to be removed in order to swap in a new plastic cover.

Let me know what you come up with.
