Make sure the ground is connected right. And try it again. If you can open the key and all the electronics work but when you try to crank nothig happens then maybe your starter took a dump on you.

 

I gave up and then changed the battery. Car started up perfectly and ran perfectly for two hours. Then all the electronics started going out randomly and the whole car died. Obviously I now need a new alternator. I'm done with this car. Why can't it just work?

 

Try running a voltage test on the alternator before you buy a new one.
