Keep it or sell it?
I recently bought a 2002 a4 Quattro 6speed for $3700. Last week it had a misfire in cylinder 1. Found zero compression in it. Ran some seafoam through the oil for about 15 mins and it seemed to free up cylinder. Now all cylinders have 90-100 PSI. Runs better than when i bought it. Needs both cats done, new rotors, pads and timing belt soon too. I love the car, color and interior is fantastic. Need advice on whether to keep it or sell it.
How many miles? Any maintenance history to go with the car?
Can you do your own wrenching?
Parts prices that I know of: Pads and Rotors, $375 for nice high carbon slotted set. Full timing belt kit, $550. check blauparts.com
There are plenty of DIY videos and threads to follow on this site if you have some basic wrench skills. These cars can be feisty, but once you get through the first round of maintenance then you know the car and can plan on the big ticket maintenance items coming up. Find a good VW/Audi independent mechanic in your area and see what he thinks.
