Hey all, been reading for a while but first post.

I have a 2004 automatic 1.8T with 71000 miles. For some reason in the past few weeks my gas mileage has gone to ****. I used to average about 21 driving to and from work, and lately its gone down to about 11. At first I thought it was the gas, but I've gone through a few tanks from different places and no difference. Any ideas what it could be? Everything sounds normal and seems to be running fine. I feel like I may have a little less power than usual but I can't tell if its all in my head. The only mod I currently have is magnaflow exhaust, but I have been planning to do injectors, dv, and stage 1+ soon.

maybe a vaccum leak? That is wierd.

 

Or your 02 sensor went pretty bad. Is there a way you can scan your car for the codes???

 

Spark plugs changed recently?

 

Nope, haven't changed plugs. I guess my best bet is just to take it in, I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Yeah, spark plugs/coil packs. But usually, coilpacks dont brake for a long time, they tend to brake when u dont expect ))

 

you should check your air filter, and tires for proper pressure then plugs and go from there. and last but not least the fuel filter.

 

Hm, I can't get it in until next week. Do you guys think its safe for me to go on a ~500 mile round trip drive this weekend? I'm not really too knowledgeable about this stuff so I'm not really sure how to check on all these things.

 

Well I wouldn't if I were you. If you noticed some problems on your car you should use some other means of transportation, because your car isn't an Honda Civic or some s*** that you can step on without replacing it for cheap, so by not risking any more further problems you should rent another car. Also, mrturbo you should check the engine and tranny level dipstick.

Air filter and tire pressure won't kill the HP. If the engine isn't making any big noises it wouldn't be the plugs.

 

Actaully they can, but by that much.
Anyways, as i have said before, go to AutoZone or something like that and scan your car.
