I've owned various Audi products over the years and I can honestly say that my 02 1.8T Avant is one of the WORST cars I've ever owned. Bought a lease back with 34k miles. Here is the list of problems I've had: fuel gauge failed - replaced instrument cluster, both headlamp washer assemblies failed, burned up turbo, coil pack failures, central door locking system failure, wheel bearing failures, notorious passenger seat airbag failure, black coated buttons and fixtures all pealing, various temp sensor replacements, low/no power during cold starts, leaking power steering assembly.

I'm not hear to competely flame Audi but I wish I would have done more research and read more posts like this so I knew what I was getting in to. My 87 4000 Quattro was bulletproof, where has that quality gone?

Also, check to see if this carcomes with the Audi extended engine warranty against sludge. This motor is notorious for sludge problems that burn up the turbo and and gum up the lube system. If you burn up a turbo due to sludge, turbo is at the end of the lube cycle, the repair will cost close to $4200.00 to replace the turbo and clean out the system. If I were purchasing a used 1.8T Audi I would make sure that it either has the extended engine warranty or at least receipts showing oil changes done on a regular basis. Audi recommends every 10k miles with Synthetic, most people I know do it every 5,000 due to mountain driving.

Good luck.

I had a 03' B6 3.0 that I bought with 53k on the clock and put 30k on it in a year. The car was flawless except for some minor issues. My 03' 1.8T has a rough idle and is not getting the best fuel mileage that it should, but I am going to put it in the shop this week to see what is up with that.

I too had an 4000s Quattro back in the early 90's. I had an 84' that I bought with 105k on it, and I drove it to 185k. When I sold it all I had done to it for the 2 years I had it wereoil changes and a ball joint. The car still had its original clutch. I am hoping that once I get the bugs out of this Avant that I can enjoy the car to 200k plus.

My S4 is a dream. Overall I think the B6 cars are very nice automobiles. The one this guy is looking at has a very clean Carfax, and it is obvious the maintenance has been done on it. As long as it is taken care of I don't see why this wouldn't be a good car.

i would stay away from any first year model like the 02 a4, or 06 a4, they are the first of their kind and there are lots of kinks to work out

Car fax on the 02 base model, looks pretty decent to me however i'm kinda stuck on the sport but the only B6 sports i can find don't have black interiors.

Any opinions?

search it up, there are hundreds of threads about this exact thing...

k04 will get you into the 250/260hp range, maybe 200 to the ground

GT28RS REvo kit, APR 3+(includes iconel cast manifold), ASP 3+ (includes FMIC)
plus you will need:
full exhaust (i love neuspeed for the $)
FMIC (er comp/sport,racetec, AWE and a few others)
test pipe/high flow cat
clutch (Southbend OFE SS or FE SS)
suspension
brakes
boost gauge
turbo inlet pipe (some kits include this)
and you will find yourself needing other stuff like a short throw shifter, power steering coolers, cosmetic upgrades and other fun stuff

and im very very happy with my stasis diff, if i had 300+ hp it would be a lot mo funner

if you want 350hp plug and play APR 3+ is the way to go, no tuning or messing with anything but its about $5k... you will need about $10-12k to get started if you can DIY
