Price for Brake Job
My "brake pads worn" symbol just came on my dash. I Want to get a complete brake job pads and rotors. What's a reasonable price for this?
I got quoted at 700 (which seemed ridiculously high) and 400 (which seemed very reasonable, doubt I can beat this)...
Thoughts?

Indie shop installed Centrex premium rotors and ceramic pads on my A6 in Dec 2010. Cost was $1020. Same shop did just just the front and rear pads on my daughter's 2003 A4 3.0 in 2008, for $330. You need to do your own due diligence on the rotors and pads -- you get what you pay for in most cases. I do a lot of highway driving, but I drove over 100k miles on the previous rotors and brake pads on my A6 (it has 204k now).

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I guess the 400 dollar price is probably pretty good considering I don't need them to last a real long time. Car already has 135K on it, and I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to have it.

Ended up being $520 (w/ tax & labor) for front pads & rotors. Mechanic said the back were fine.
I had an argument wit My Dad over it, lol. He thinks I got ripped off, but this guy said he got good parts and some of the aftermarket stuff isn't worth putting on an Audi because they won't last long and it'll be "noisy." I just went with the guy's opinion because I want it done and overwith, lol.

I did the upgrade to V6 brakes in the rear (carriers + rotors) I put Dan Block Euro pads on and it cost me less than $300. With out the carriers it would have been less than $100
Fronts were a bit more when I went with V6 brakes, rotors were $150 for the pair and $50 for the pads and I found used carriers for $100 for the pair.
So I have about $600 invested in my brakes front and rear, that's carriers, pads and rotors. Huge difference with larger rotors, and looks much better now the 18's are mounted up
