Hi CincyTT, Mine comes on at first startup and goes out well before the engine is at temp. And this just started in the last two weeks. never did it before for the 4 years previous I owned the car. I do not think this is the answer. Kev

No mine does it either in cold weather or a nice warm day. For 4 yeasr it never did this and just the last two weeks it started. That does not correlate with "its normal".

No sorry i do not think this is the answer. My car never ever did this regardless of cold weather minus 20 degrees or hot weather 32 degrees. It started doing it out of the blue just 2 weeks ago. before that never for 4 years.
Its something else.

The Coolant flange goes bad every now and then, you have to replace the little nipple, I think there's a PDF attached to a thread floating around with a break down for those with a 3.0. The fan noise, if the car is heating then the fan will come on, if it's not then you probably have a bad fan control thingy, have to replace it, don't know the price. What is the most obvious telltale sign that the Temperature gauge may be malfunctioning? Are we going to see the temp gauge hop up to hot at startup and then drop back down or what will we notice to determine that?

UPDATE...... I found the problem of what was making the Loud supersonic fan noise on cold start each time I started the car when it was sitting for a long while (ie: overnight). Looking at the front of the car way down in the lower left corner, I pulled the lower engine gaurd panel (the large black plastic piece that shrouds the lower engine) and I found a 1.5" (I think) diameter hose with that flexed ribbed contour that came to a 90 degree elbow. It was unplugged from the box or compartment it was supposed to plug into. I plugged it back in and the loud fan whirring noise disappeared.

When that's happened to me, its been the coolant temperature sender. Bet you throw a CEL in a few days, if so, it almost certainly is. Luckily its an easy fix...
