Rear View Mirror Issue! Help!
So I was driving home, and I went to adjust my rear view mirror, and it fell off! I tried the mirror kit, but it doesn't stick! I know that the black ring in the middle of the mirror is supposed to come out so that it can be glued directly to the windshield black piece, but it wont come out! Please help!
Okay, so nobody has responded yet, so I'll just tell the people who just browse to find the solutions to a problem they have. My rear-view fell off about a week ago now, and the way that it got fixed was pretty strenuous. The mirror kits that autozone sells tend to work on all cars--except german cars. I was freaking out because I'm 16 and didn't have a mirror, so I researched like mad! I even had to go to a BMW (oohhh, how I hate that name) website to see if it could help. I turns out that BMW's also have the black plastic circle on the windshield. The mirror NEEDS to be attached in a very specific way! FIRST: You can buy the kit, but it says on the box that it takes about 5 mins to dry. FALSE! On our cars, the black plastic piece prevents it from bonding quickly. So, my dad and I had to set up a steering wheel lock to hold the mirror in place. Let the glue dry for 12 hours at least!! We did 24, just to be safe, but it still looks like it will come off soon, so SECOND: I read this online that "Gorilla Glue" works wonders on the plastic piece (but take note that only a drop or two is necessary because it expands!) and the orange glue isn't even visible (because of the black piece). We would have gone with the second option, but we didn't have any gorilla glue. I will probably be using it soon though! Hope that this helps somebody out there with the same problem!
