I am trying to hook up an aftermarket head unit (Pioneer) to my 2002 audi a4 b6. It has the symphony system. I bought a wiring harness so I don't have to splice directly in to the factory harness, but there are a few wires that the head unit simply doesn't have, and from what ive found this seems to be a common problem for these pioneer units. But I got it cheap and the features of the actual unit seem very nice. So Im trying to work with it unless it just is beyond practical. I think I have worked out most of the problems, except the harness I purchased has a remote turn on lead that goes to the car. Does the car require one? I know if I had an aftermarket amp it would, but if Im just changing the head unit do I need to do this? just wondering because I bought some subs and that amp DOES require the remote turn on wire. I guess if i need to I can splice that one wire to both the car and my sub amp. And if nobody knows for sure, should I just hook it up anyways? Would it do anything bad? I just don't want to send voltage where it is not needed.
And just a side note, the head unit does not come with a lead for a power antenna, but the wiring harness I bought also has a lead for that (and it was designed for my model of car according to the package) so does that mean that my car also has a power antenna? I cant even find an exterior antenna even with everything on. So that is also confusing. So for that right now I am planning to just wire up the switched power to it. As other threads Ive seen say this is what the best simple option is if you dont have a power antenna lead on your head unit. So at the moment I am doing alot of guess work with limited experience. So any help would be appreciated on what goes where!

I also would recommend crutchfield.com. I recently (last summer) did a stereo redo to my 05 B6 with the Bose system and got everything from them, double din touch screen head unit, Rockford Fosgate speakers and wiring harness. Everything went perfect and sounds awesome with the factory amp. When you get the install kit from them you get everything you need even the stereo surround.
Good luck! Clay

I actually purchased a scosche wiring harness which is the brand that is sold for the b6 on crutchfield. they are a great resource, but I am not looking to purchase anything else, if I was they would definitely be the go to.Originally Posted by cpageIII
