Speakers blown
Ive got a few speakers blown. I dont really want to go after market for them, but are the stock OEM ones pricey? Does anyone know of a source for OEM speakers? Are the lower speakers in the doors 2 way speakers? Thanks
Thanks guys.
I've talked to shokan before and they seem to have good prices so I'm sure I'll use them at some point, like to replace my two bent wheels that they quoted 150 each on for 17s. I thought about them for speakers but idk if I want to go oem now that I've looked through eBay and found out they are paper. I don't want to have to change anything else though, like head unit or adding amplification.
Don't know if I want to go used either. Are the speakers prone to breakage? I know mine haven't been abused and a few of them are bad.

Yeah and if so what sizes did you use? I don't want to have to modify my doors or anything.
If you have the Bose system I would be certain to replace the blown speakers with speakers of the same resistance. I would not be surprised in the least that Bose designed the system to operate speakers with some odd resistance, i.e. 1.7, 2.8, 6.3ohms etc. vs. a standard 4ohm or 8ohm replacement. That's Bose's niche, developing all their components specifically for one another. If you change the resistances by replacing with different speakers you could damage a) your new speakers b) the amplifier. Either way not a good idea. Replace with speakers of the exact same ratings to be safe. That may limit you purchasing them from a salvage yard, through Audi or through Bose.
Also I know Vag-com scans the radio controller for dtc's and I don't know what changing things up would do, if anything at all. Just something to consider.

The OEM speakers are easy enough to find.
In my B5, I upgraded my stereo quite a bit. The very last thing I upgraded was the speakers. The OEM ones are great! I was pushing them with a JL 450/4, and they sounded phenomenal. The problem with them is that the stock amp is so weak that they distort at high volumes (a result of pushing the amp past its limit).
And yeah, they DO run with a weird resistance... but my amp worked with them.
