Default Temp Gauge Not Working

I have 2002 A4 1.8T and the CEL light came on reading a P1296 code (Fuel Air Metering). I replaced the temp. sensor but unless I am not moving my temp gauge still reads cold. Does anyone know what the next step might be to solve this issue? I am getting heat from my climate control. Please help.

My 05 1.8 Ultrasport has had the same problem without the CEL's coming on for a few months now. It's funny because sometimes when i look down at the tepm gauge it reads fine, right in the middle. and sometimes when i check it, it's stone cold. I asked on this forum before and was given the advice to replace the temp. gauge sensor, so that's next! Good luck!
