Default Oil Temp gauge not working

Hey guys,

So I am slowly trying to fix all the little things wrong with the car and for as long as I can remember the oil temp sensor gauge on the bottom left of my dash hasnt worked... What is causing this? How can I fix it?

I noticed a sensor on the bottom of the oil pan but I think that is only an oil level sensor, or does that do temp aswell?

Thanks

Also, is this info used by the ECU as the coolant temp is or is it simply for my viewing pleasure?

The oil level sensor doubles as a temp sensor, and the ECM does use the temp as an input, for what though i can't tell you...maybe as another indicator to go into closed loop.

Ok so my best bet then would be to change the oil level sensor. I take it the oil pressure sensor is elsewhere? I remember reading that these 3 sensors had their jobs switched around, that the oil pressure was at a time doubled with the oil temp?

I know I'm digging up an old thread, but I've replaced the pressure sensor and the level/"temp" sensor and neither have worked.

I've had this problem persist with 2 different ECUs.

What am I missing?

Thanks
