Unhappy Is there something wrong with my Transmission?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site but I have heard nothing but good things ab out it...so here I am.
I have a 2004 A4 1.8 T Auto...Every morning when I first start driving the transmission acts weird. It shifts fine once I take off, its the stoping part where its trouble. Just before it comes to a stop the transmission shifts back to first gear but it does it with a kick. As I drive the car for about 10-15 minutes it stops the rough 1st gear shift, but it does it every time I drive. ALSO, while it does the rough 1st gear shift sometimes after a complete stop the trans won't shift into gear even though its in drive.....I'll press the accelerator and the car will hesitate for 5-10 seconds before it catches the gear.....but as I said all this stuff lasts only for the first 10-15 min until the car warms up.

If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks, Andras.

Are you driving in d or s? S will make it kick more due to early downshifts, but most of your symptoms don't sound normal. Make sure the fluid is full.

I have exactly the same problem with my 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro. Any suggestions what the problem might be? Thanks!

Well if you have a FWD with CVT transmission then welcome to team. You are experiencing why AUDI went from a 5 plate to a 7 plate clutch due to the CVT and 5plate not holding the Torque put out from the motor. I own A4 2004 1.8T FWD with CVT and I had to replace my tranny to the tune of $7200.00. You may even feel a little shudder when the tranny moves from what would be 1st to 2end. Try replacing with SYN CVT fluid...And if you own a quattro then disregard what I said

I don't have an auto nor know much about them but first thing I would do is get the fluid checked or even replaced. It relies on that to switch gears properly.

I also had my CVT replaced for about $6200 a little over a year ago. Went from the 5-plat to 7-plate clutch. If you have a CVT, beware...

Do do you have a CVT (Multitronic) or normal auto (Tiptronic)?
