I have searched, and havent found a satisfactory answer - so lets skip those comments


Background:

my car had been hard to start the past couple months - it would turn, turn, turn, then fire and throw an EPC. I would let it run for a min, then turn it off an start it again, no light.

I was driving home sunday, and going up a hill on the gas I felt the engine shutter a bit. It did it a couple more times, only on the gas. I got to a stoplight, and the engine almost quit, the revs then jumped up and I got an EPC with a high idle. Drove her home gently, and turned her off -

Turned her back on again, CEL and EPC. Runs smooth, no misfires or skips (At least at idle)

I just got a chance to vag her tonight - got 2 codes - 16705, 16706 - engine speed sensor

my ? is this - could this be the cause? During my search I found that several people with this problem had their cars stalling out, or not starting. Would this be the cause of the CEL?

My plan is to call the dealership tomorrow and ask them what they think (=bring it in), and see if they have that part handy. If they do I might just go pick one up and throw it in (im driving the backup right now).

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? I really want to know if this is what is causing the problem? Thanks in advance guys.
