Timing Belt - Too good to be true?
I'm at 75,000 miles on an '03 3.0 so I've started shopping around for timing belt jobs. I know there are a few posts out there about this but I wanted some opinions on this. I'm in Louisiville, KY and everyone I talk to/everything I've found online says to go to the Volksdoktor. I've only read very positive reviews about this place. I have called twice now about the timing belt just to make sure and they quoted me $850 which includes water pump, tensioners, coolant and everything. I even made them double check to make sure that was for the 3.0 and they said yes, the 1.8 is cheaper. I can't do it myself for much cheaper than this. This place has been in business for years and they specialize is Audi and Volkswagon so I'm sure they know what they are talking about. I've never seen anyone say they have gotten it done for this cheap. Is there anything I should double check to make sure they are including/anything to watch out for?
The 3.0L timing belt takes a hell of a lot longer than a 1.8T, so if they know what they are talking about and only quoted you $850 i would pounce on that deal. We charged close to $3,000 at my shop for that job.

This kit for 3.0 costs about $400.
I bought a kit from this website for my 1.8T, and it was on spot. I didn't know much more about mechanics than changing my oil and tires, and I was able to change my belt and keep it in seemingly perfect timing in about a day. I understand that a 3.0 is going to be much more difficult, but you CAN DIY for much cheaper. ALSO:
I know a guy in Lexington that works on foreign cars: Abe's foreign car repair (859) 255-4867. He explains everything straight up, no bull, does good/timely work, and is cost efficient.
I hope some of this helped.
