hey guys,

The trunk on my 04 a4 usp keeps popping open on me. it pops if im sitting without the key in the ign. it also does it while its running and not running with the key in the ign. a friend told me that it might be happening because the battery in my key might be close to dead. i removed the battery and it still does it. i haven't heared of this happening to anyone and im sick of pulling over after a traffic light to close it. is there a module or something that could be going bad?

The latch is electrical, it commonly has problem with the contacts which is most likely causing the unwanted opening of the lid. Replace the latch located on the TRUNK LID, not the striker.

Take it out and try to clean it first...Also, trace the wire back and make sure its not damaged.

 

both auditech and midnite gave you good advice. it sounds like an intermittent electrical problem. chaffed wires can be your worst enemy, even just a little nick and it can be very hard to find. good luck!
