hello everyone, i'm new here. i need some good advice. i average 20 city, 30 highway even with the stage 1+ from apr (i own a 02 b6 1.8tqms with 130k). now i cant even average 20 on the highway. it's also lost some power. i'm beggining to think the turbo is going out. i've kinda been waiting for this so i can get an upgrade. First question: does this sound like the turbo is going out and what other signs should i be looking for? second question: what's the best turbo for reliability (i use my car as a daily driver, i would like to keep my mileage close to what i was getting before)? i heard k04 is best, but not worth the money. what about gt28rs? anybody have that and whats the mileage?

 

Are those the only symptoms you got? Doesnt sound like the turbo at all. Do you have a boost guage to determine how the turbo is holding boost? Start with that, then we can give suggestions for the turbo

 

Does the K03 sound like a dentist drill?

 

Sounds like you might have a bad 02 sensor which is causing the car to run rich all the time.

Skip the K04 for your car, just not worth the money. Better off spending that money on a elim kit which will make more power at the wheels then you would at the crank with a K04.

What speed are you cruising at to get 30mpg? I get like 28-29 at 70mph in pretty flat terrain with tip in 5th. Not that I go 70 all that often or anything! Maybe it's just the diff between manual and auto gearing.

 

is your car throwing a code? are your rpms high? is there white smoke coming out of the exhaust ? does it sound wierd?

 

sorry for responding this late. i'll start from the top: euro 2nr, no i dont have a boost gauge (what's the best to get for cheap, been planning to get one for some time now?); Kwik shift, the ko3 sounds just fine, it still makes that lovely whoosh when it spools; Mike@DTH, what kind of discount r we talking about here (i only have the exhaust, what else would i need, how reliable would that kit be, what mileage, is there more turbo lag than a stock wrx with this kit?)? shane.trammell, i used to get 21/22 in the city, then adding the injectors and exhaust dropped to 20.5 on average, around 28 going 80mph with A/C on in nevada dessert, 28/29/30 with no a/c driving between salt lake city utah and sacramento CA. Borninrussia3, the car does not make weird noises, rpms are the same since purchased, no code on board, but there was white smoke out of the exhaust on several occasions in the morning warmup, but once i drive it goes away in about 15 to 20 seconds. i will try to change the O2 sensor and see if that takes care of the problem. Anybody else have any other advices? i really want to get my mileage back.

 

i dunno man your turbo is fine thats for sure, save ur self some money and just check the sensors instead of buying new ones , its easy all you need is a voltmeter. other than that ....try giving it a nice tune up maybe try some seafoam some in the tank and some through the vacuum line.

If you have a vagcom, check your fuel trim readings(block 032). They can give you a idea if the 02 sensor is an issue.
