Vacuum Issues
I have a 2002 Audi A4 1.8t FWD CVT. So I have two problems, both of which are probably contributing to my boost issues. No CEL at this point.
1) On the vacuum lines there are these plastic regulators that seem to prevent air flow from going backwards, or something. They are little round plastic things (not the charcoal filter). The issue is they are basically crumbling into pieces. They must be made of cheap plastic or something and at this point they seem really fragile. What exactly are they, what do I ask for at the parts store, and where are they all located in case I missed any?
2) There is a pipe coming out of the engine block with a huge crack in it. I have NO IDEA how it could have gotten cracked, but sure enough it is. It appears to be part of the vacuum system; I think it's the crankcase breather hose. It is located right next to the oil filter. Anyone have any idea of how this could have cracked? Also, what should I look for in replacing it? What part? I assume I just pop the intake manifold off and replace the piece of hard tubing with a new part?

1. those are check valves, youre right about their function. you can get them at audi/vw or here http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pro...&cookie_test=1
2. is that "T" shaped?
2. is that "T" shaped?
Also replace the rubber T going from the plastic piece to the PCV valve and the other hose. the rubber will get soft like taffy due to the oil and blowby in the crankcase fumes. it is really cheap. ECS tuning has them both. The crankcase breather tube item number is ES#5940 the "T' three way valve housing item number is ES#258895
here is the link to the page with the parts. Hope this helps. I'd replace all of the hoses and lines while the intake is off. its much easier than dealing with it later.
