Default 3.2L oil leak - left front - ???

my wife's 2005.5 (B7) A4 with 3.2L motor was parked on Sat in our garage - after she left for work on Monday morning I noticed a 3-4" circle of what smells like engine oil on the floor just inside of where the LF wheel/tire was parked... she has 73K on here car and I have not done a lot to it other then very regular oil changes and tire rotates - I kinda know that the timing belt is probably due sometime soon but really did not want to deal with a 'must fix tonite' type oil leak... the car has been bullet proof, never leaking a drop of anything or needing any work other then a battery & brake pads...

is there something common that leaks on these motors?

please advise....

thanks!

Could it be the fluid in the front left CV boot. Check to see if the boot has torn.

undo the hosing on the front left that goes to the intercooler...check to see if oil pours out of there...if so, could be a gasket in the turbo

um - I have no intercooler or turbo....

talked to a tech from a local Audi dealership this afternoon & he says it is rare to see a 3.2L leak anything... he says the CVT models have some oil cooler hose issues but mines not a CVT (I am thankful for that - I have driven a few CVT cars and that whole non-shift thing is too weird for me)

so I will be putting the car up in the air tonite (as high as I can go with a floor jack in my garage) and disassembling some plastic stuff to try to see what is going on up there - these cars are sure tight in the eng. compartment

will keep you posted for any other 3.2L people with leaks... wish me luck

emergency called off....

the Audi tech was 100% correct in that this motor is not leaking anything from anywhere - instead my oil change from a couple of weeks ago was a failure and the filter was not seated correctly allowing a little leak... dripping down and sitting on the plastic underbody until the car sat on a slight downhill on Saturday and then it started dripping out... spent a few hours under the car cleaning things up last night - and between small mirrors and bright lights I was able to track it to the source....

I am really glad this did not turn out to be a big issue as we are suppose to road trip it to Vegas for Thanksgiving and that would have been a long drive in my truck - thanks for the input guys!!

yeah these engines never leak. one time i had my oil changed at an independant oil shop and since the oil filter for my engine is located above the suspension, when he pulled the filter off he spilt oil all over the suspension. i parked it in my spot free driveway and noticed some oil drops on the driveway when i reversed. sure enough, there was no leak. it was just the remianing spilt oil from the suspension dripping down.

if you've ever been to germany, you'd notice the parking lots and streets are oil spot free. those seals are the best in the industry.

Somewhere I read that it can be tricky to change the oil in these engines without getting just a little bit of oil on the surrounding components. My car smells a bit like burnt oil for about two weeks after the dealer changes the oil, then it goes away.

WRR, Another emergency you can call off is replacing your timing belt. Your engine is chain driven and Audi says it will last the life of the car.

Also, THAT leak. Even if the seal is made correctly. If you pull the filter too fast if will drip down the back of the left bank. But that tech is wrong to say the 3.2L never leaks because i've done probably 30 timing chain covers this past year.

Just FYI
