Unhappy Blanking EGR. To solve P0299 Under boost on turbo?!

Hi everyone, another newbie desperate for any soirt of a heads up.

As I mention in a previous post I have had a night mare few month with my A4 2.0tdi 170.

Had the dreaded oil pump shaft failure and as a result needed a new turbo also and has had the intercooloer cleaned right through also.

Went into limp mode and I also have the DPF light on.

It's gone for a forced regen today and I collect hopefully tomorrow.

The reason for starting a new thread is I was told today by the mechanic that the p0299 under boost on turbo fault that I had, might be caused by a knackered EGR valve. I told it him it had been off and thoroughly cleaned but he suggested blanking off. He said however not to 'just use a blanking plate' but to buy a kit that you hook up and it means you dont get any faults up due to the blank?

Does this ring a bell with anyone?.. I have seen a kit like the pic attached.. is this the type of thing I am after.

thanks in advance for any help.. I really appreciate all the info I get from this forum.. its cracking.. kills alot of time on nightshift too.

I've never heard the term blanking before but I'm going to assume it's the same as 'delete'. On diesel pickups we 'delete' the egr because it robs us of mileage. yes that will throw an egr code, but there are products out there that will take care of that. Might be worth doing if indeed we are talking about the same term.

Hiya mate, thanks for taking the time to reply. I did indeed mean delete. I was looking at blanking plates before sending the post so it must have stuck in my head.

I considered the plates idea, and even saw them with holes in that reduce the chance of egr codes, but have been told the pipes shown above are a better option.

When you say there are products to sort the egr codes do you mean having a remap or is there another way? My mechanic who knows his stuff mentioned a kit with some sort of plug in that sorts the problem.. is he on about the resistors I have read about?.. cos I cant seem to find one with that sort of kit included.

Really appreciate any advice you could give me or if you could point me in the direction of the stuff you use.

Happy new year.. lets hope 2014 is kinder to me and my motor!

Si

I personally don't own an Audi diesel, yours is diesel right? Are you from the UK as well? Just going by your name on here I own a diesel dodge pickup, so it's a different market with different products obviously. But the products I'm talking about would be tuners or chips that fool the computer, or for lack of better words re program it so it'll think it has an egr when it doesn't so the light will stay off, or another example make it dump more fuel into the cylinders to make more power (I haven't actually 'deleted' mine as mine didn't have egr from factory, but I have chipped it for more power). Those products would be Bully Dog, or Banks, or Smarty, etc. But I'm not sure if those products have anything available for an Audi diesel. Maybe look into some tuners or chips for your vehicle, there may or may not be anything for it.

Best of luck and happy new year to you as well!

Not sure your vehicle will pass the MOT testing with a egr delete. They do have emissions testing over there don't they?
