I have a 2007 A4 2.oT Cabrio

roof worked perfectly until yesterday. It opened for me and then 5 kms later when I tried to close it the cycle started but did not complete. From OPEN position it lowered the windows, unlocked the rear cover, slightly raised the rear cover about 2 inches and then stopped. I was able to reverse it and have it fully open again but that was the extent of the range of motion, from fully open to only opening the rear cover 2 or 3 inches.
I had to close the roof manually.
I then tried to Open it and same thing essentially happened. From CLOSED position it lowered the windows, unlocked the roof, slightly opened the roof above the windscreen about 2 or 3 inches and stopped. Similarly, I can close it fully again using the button but the full range of motion is from fully closed to only 3 inches open.

Would love too hear any ideas of on what could be wrong and how to fix
