Cabriolet soft top opening/closing problems
In September, when opening my 2007 A4 Cabriolet soft top via the console switch, it unlatched and moved 1 inch then stopped and wouldn't open any further. It would close, but repeated attempts to open yielded the same result. I eventually tried opening it via the door key entry method and it opened fully. It has been opening and closing via the console switch fine till last night. It was open, and in attempting to close it via the console switch, the rear lid opened an inch and then stopped - same as September but closing rather than opening. However now using the door key entry method to close it does the same - rear lid opens an inch and stops. Obviously, something is breaking down. Any thoughts for how to fix this? Thanks.

Problem Solved
I found a solution on audi-sport.net here http://http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/...-guide.131801/.
The problem was the commutator in the hydraulic motor working the top had become dirty. The link shows exactly how to break it down and clean it. Followed precisely and presto the top moves like now. Easily saved me over $1000 as the repair would have simply installed a new hydraulic motor rather than clean it.

Well cleaning the commutator worked for 3 months. Then yesterday roof went down fine but now won't go up. Ok, so does anyone know where I can purchase a new electric motor for the hydraulic roof system (besides the dealer!)?

A couple years ago I had the same issue and I found one on Ebay for less than $200 new. I had tried the repairs and even a used motor (bad idea). "AUDI 8H0959755A GENUINE OEM FACTORY ORIGINAL MOTOR" sold by "genuineaudipartsusa". This was the correct motor for our 2007 A4 cabriolet. This was just the electric motor and not the full hydraulic unit. Good luck.
